How To Secretly Get Your Partners Finger Size
Do you know your partners finger size? So, you’ve finally decided that it’s time to pop the question. You’ve picked out the perfect engagement ring from Underwoods and you have the perfect proposal planned out. There's one thing standing in your way: You don’t know what ring size you should get! No need to worry! We have some tips and tricks to help you secretly find your future fiancé's ring size.1) Ask a friendGet in touch with a friend or family member of your significant other. They may have bought them a ring as a gift before, or the topic of ring size could have popped up in conversation. If they don’t know, you can always recruit them to help. Have someone take them “window shopping” for a ring and get them to see what their ring size is for “fun”. Borrow a ringIf you can get your hands on a ring that your partner wears, you can bring it in to Underwoods and get it measured. If you can, make sure that they usually wear the ring on their right ring finger to get the most accurate size. If they don’t wear a ring on that finger you can still bring it in and get an estimated measurement for another finger. Just be aware that the ring will most likely need to be re-sized.What if you can't "borrow" your loved ones ring?If you’re unable to bring their ring to us without them noticing it’s missing, there are a few tricks you try to get a measurement. First, you can try the ring on yourself and mark on your finger where it falls. Then you can come in and have us find the size that falls in the same place. You can also make an impression of the ring in a bar of soap and bring it in for measurement. Another method is to trace the inside of the borrowed ring with a pencil and have us match the size. When in doubt, size it upIt's always better if the ring is slightly too big rather than too small. You want to be able to slip it on their finger when you propose! It’s usually pretty simple... just make sure when you are buying the ring, you make sure it is a ring that can be resized. Sometimes thin bands that are covered in gems cannot be resized. We also recommend proposing first. Once you propose, have your partner come in and we can measure their finger for the perfect size. Learn moreJewelry Cleaning at Home
Jewelry Cleaning At HomeCleaning your Jewelry is important Underwoods jewelry is made to last a lifetime, but proper care and cleaning is essential to keep it looking beautiful all the time. Everyday tasks such as cleaning, kitchen work, and even applying lotion or hairspray can dirty up jewelry quickly. Cleaning jewelry regularly will keep it shiny and reduce the amount of buildup from everyday wear. Germs can get buried deep inside your jewelry and without proper cleaning, can cause bacterial infections. Keep in mind that different metals and stones require different types of cleaning so make sure you’re using the best method possible for your jewelry. You can always use commercial jewelry cleaners, like our Underwoods branded cleaner, or you can try out some at-home methods. It’s also best to use a jewelry polishing cloth because the fibers in paper towels and other cloths can cause small scratches on the surface of your jewelry. DiamondsYou can clean your diamonds everyday and it will not hurt them. Diamonds are highly attracted to oils and grease so the slightest touch with your finger will leave a visible finger print mark. Mix a few drops of liquid dish soap with hot water. Dip a medium-bristle toothbrush into solution. Gently brush the top and bottom of your diamonds. Rinse with warm running water. Gently dry with a soft lint-free cloth. GoldYou will not need to clean gold very often, but when you'd like your jewelry to look a little brighter, mix a few drops of liquid dish soap with warm water. Soak jewelry in the solution for 30 minutes. Scrub jewelry with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse gold with warm running water. Dry with a soft lint-free cloth. – Putting your gold in boiling water is NOT recommended.SilverSilver is notorious for oxidation and discoloration over time, especially when stored in an air-tight place. Mix a few drops of liquid dish soap with warm water. Dip a soft cloth in the solution. Gently rub the cloth over the jewelry. Rinse with cool water. Gently dry with a soft lint-free cloth. -You can also use a polishing cloth for quick results. Pearls Cleaning Pearls at home can be tricky! You must be careful getting water on the silk, as it can become stiff and eventually break. Pearls are the last thing on when you're getting ready in the morning. Make sure you put your perfume and lotion on before your pearls. They should also be the first thing you take off when getting ready for bed. Use a soft polishing cloth and gently massage your pearl strand to wipe clean. Colored gemstonesEach colored gemstone is unique and cleaning them is no different. Each gem has it's own special cleaning guide simply because the hardness of the stone will determine how you clean it. Here is the perfect guide to use for all your gem cleaning needs. Pro Tip- Be careful with thermal shock on certain gemstones such as Emerald and other gems. Going from hot to cold will potentially make your stone crack.Gemstone Cleaning GuideWe all get busy during the summer time with vacations, outdoor activities and sports. What You Need to KnowThis situation can be different for everyone. If family is important to her, ask her if her family is more traditional when it comes to asking for her hand in marriage. When asking for the blessing, it never hurts to bring a small gift to who you’re asking like a small bottle of wine or whiskey.Take her to a jewelry store (we recommend Underwoods) and have her try on rings. They always look different in person than they do with just a photo from the internet. Internet photos can sometimes give you unrealistic expectations. When trying on rings, get her finger sized. Make sure you know what the most important features are she expects for her ring. Consider things like the metal color, the shape of the diamond and the style of the mounting. If she wants you to surprise her with the ring, make sure the sales associate helping you writes down as many notes as possible and gives you a copy to keep. All that’s left is for you to pull the trigger and purchase a ring! When to ProposeTiming is everything! Choose a time frame you’re wanting to propose like Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter. This is important to plan out because sometimes the perfect ring could take up to a couple of months to make if you don’t buy it right out of the case. One good idea is to make sure you have the ring in hand before planning your grand proposal.Where to ProposeWHERE to propose is going to be just as important as WHEN you propose. Feel her out with how she wants to be proposed to. Does she want an extravagant proposal with all her friends and family? If so, consider your proposal location somewhere with food or a bar. This will allow you to have an engagement party immediately following your proposal.Intimate ProposalIf she wants the proposal to be intimate, choose a location that is special for the both of you. It never hurts to hire a photographer to hide in the bushes to capture your special moment! By Underwoods Fine JewelersShop OnlineTanzanite Tanzanite is a newer stone and was added to the official birthstone list in 2002 by the American Gem Trade Association as an additional birthstone for December. Tanzania, a country rich in folklore, boasts an ancient story that the local Maasai saw a bolt of lightning come down from the sky and strike all the rocks on the ground turning them to a shimmering blue – Tanzanite. The gemstone was discovered by Manuel d’Souza in the Mirerani Hills of Manyara Region in Northern Tanzania in 1967, near the city of Arusha and Mount Kilimanjaro. Tanzanite is only found in Tanzania, in a very small mining area (approximately 7 km long and 2 km wide) near the Mirerani Hills.Tanzanite is believed to be a stone of good fortune, and provide wisdom and balance. Tanzanite is the preferred gift to give on the 24th wedding anniversary and is sometimes called the “Workoholic’s Stone” because it is said to aid in slowing down, relieving stress and promoting composure and harmony. ZirconZircon is the oldest mineral on earth, dating back more than 4.4 billion years. Found in the Earth’s crust, it’s common in most sands and sedimentary deposits, as well as metamorphic rocks and crystallized magma. The name is thought to derive from the Persian zargun meaning gold-hued. Zircon occurs in many colors, including reddish brown, yellow, green, blue, gray and colorless. In the Middle Ages, this gem was thought to induce sound sleep, drive away evil spirits, and promote riches, honor, and wisdom. Turquoise Admired since ancient times, turquoise is known for its distinct color, which ranges from powdery blue to greenish robin’s egg blue. It’s one of few minerals to lend its name to anything that resembles its striking color. The word turquoise dates back to the 13th century, drawing from the French expression pierre tourques, which referenced the “Turkish stone” brought to Europe from Turkey. Native Americans believed Turquoise to have many protective and healing properties including a positive healing energy, good fortune, and strength. Other cultures believe Turquoise enhances creativity, communication, serenity and wisdom. Turquoise is also believed to foster empathy, loyalty, courage, confidence, and personal power. A dream of Turquoise is thought to signify prosperity. Turquoise is the gift to give on the 11th wedding anniversary and symbolizes friendship and brings peace to the home.
